Sample Outline: Tribute Speech on Doris Hatfield

Introduction

Many of you probably have a special person whom you look up to. Maybe that person has helped you in some way. For me, that person is my grandmother, Doris Hatfield.

Today, I would like you to help me pay tribute to her by listening to stories about her generosity and positive attitude. Despite life’s challenges, she has always lived by a certain motto, and I think it is a principle that each of you can apply to your own life when needed.

1. First, I want to discuss her generosity.
   1. Doris Hatfield has shown remarkable generosity throughout her life by constantly giving to her family.
      1. She has given money to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even great-great-grandchildren.
         1. Her willingness to give reflects her deep love.
         2. It also illustrates her commitment to her family’s well-being.
      2. She has also helped with college expenses, fundraisers, and anyone who is in need.
   2. She has built strong relationships by opening her home and heart to her grandchildren.
      1. She has eighteen grandchildren, as well as countless great-grandchildren and a few great-great-grandchildren.
      2. All of her grandchildren have taken turns staying with her while growing up.
         1. Whether it was for a few weeks during the summer or for longer visits, she made each one feel welcome and loved.
         2. Each grandchild has felt her love and devotion over the years because each one was treated as special.
   3. She has shared valuable life skills that have shaped generations of her family.
      1. She taught various grandchildren how to swim, fish, and make homemade butter.
      2. She also passed down countless other life lessons that continue to guide them today.
         1. These experiences created lasting memories.
         2. They also created meaningful bonds.
2. Second, Doris Hatfield always has a positive attitude.
   1. She always reflects positivity, no matter what life brings her way.
      1. Her life motto is, “There’s always a silver lining around every cloud.”
         1. This reflects her belief that even in difficult situations, there is always something good to be found.
         2. She also looks for the lesson to be learned from challenges and difficult experiences.
      2. During difficult times, she turns to her faith in God to help her get through them.
   2. She has demonstrated strength and resilience through many challenges.
      1. She experienced the loss of her baby brother at a young age.
      2. She endured economic hardships throughout her life.
      3. She also faced the heartbreaking loss of her husband and grandson.

         2. She instilled faith in all of her children, and that faith has been passed down to her great-great-grandchildren.
   3. Her attitude has made her a source of strength and joy for others.
      1. She is strong, tenacious, and always ready to have fun.
      2. She inspires those around her to look for the good in every situation.

Conclusion

Doris Hatfield is known by many names, including Doris, Mom, Grandma, and Aunt Doris. However, to me, she is Memaw and the best grandmother God ever created.

Now that you understand what a generous and positive person she is, I hope you can take some of these life lessons and apply them to your own life. I am deeply grateful for everything she has done for me and our family.
